Portraiture is about more than how someone looks; it’s about how they carry themselves, what makes them distinctive, and what emerges when they become comfortable in front of the camera. I approach each person individually, paying close attention to light, expression, posture, and environment to create photographs that feel both vibrant and natural. My goal isn’t to manufacture a version of someone for the camera, but to recognize what is already there and photograph it beautifully.
For the past three years, I’ve brought that approach to portrait assignments to Philadelphia, photographing individuals and editorial subjects across the city. That includes family photography throughout Philadelphia, where the goal is to preserve connection and personality without making the session feel overly staged.
I’ve spent more than a decade photographing people in an unusually wide range of environments—from portraits and weddings to major events for organizations like NASA, National Geographic, and the World Bank. For the past three years, Philadelphia has been a regular part of that work.
That range has taught me how to adapt quickly to different people, personalities, locations, and time constraints. Some sessions are quiet and deliberate; others require me to make someone comfortable and create a strong portrait in only a few minutes.
Whatever the circumstances, I pay close attention to the details that shape how someone appears in a photograph and give clear direction without making the process feel overly posed or complicated.
The right location depends on what you want the portrait to feel like. Philadelphia gives us enough visual range to build the session around you instead of forcing every portrait into the same setting.
Center City and the surrounding neighborhoods can give a portrait structure, depth, and a stronger sense of place. Architecture, streets, stone, glass, and repeating lines can become part of the composition without distracting from the person being photographed.
Not every portrait needs to feel distinctly urban. Philadelphia also offers quieter streets, parks, and green spaces that work well when the goal is something softer, more relaxed, or less formal. The location should reinforce the mood rather than dictate it.
Sometimes the strongest setting is your workplace, home, studio, or another environment connected to who you are. I’ve spent the last several years photographing throughout Philadelphia and can help choose a location based on the photographs you want rather than defaulting to the same familiar backdrop.
What I Deliver
The finished work should feel considered without feeling overworked: photographs with presence, personality, and enough range to be useful well beyond a single profile picture.
You do not need to arrive knowing what to do in front of the camera. I give enough direction to create strong posture, expression, and shape while leaving room for the photograph to still feel like you. The goal is confidence without stiffness.
A portrait session should give you range. Depending on the assignment, that can include tighter portraits, environmental photographs, different expressions, changes in framing, and images with enough variety to work across editorial, professional, and personal uses.
I use the environment, available light, and supplemental lighting deliberately rather than treating the location as a backdrop. Whether the session is in an office, home, studio, or on location, the setting should contribute to the photograph rather than compete with it.
Finished portraits are carefully edited for color, tone, skin, temporary blemishes, stray hairs, and distracting details. I do not erase the features that make someone recognizable or create an artificial version of the person who was photographed.
Final photographs are delivered at high resolution through a private online gallery, ready for websites, publications, social media, professional profiles, press materials, and print.
I personally review, select, and finish the photographs I deliver. The work does not move through an automated editing pipeline or get handed off to someone who was not there. The final gallery reflects the same judgment that shaped the session itself.
